Care for each other

You don’t have to be an expert to help a friend you’re concerned about. We each have a role to play as we care for each other in our communities. Three simple actions can make a difference:

1
Acknowledge

The first step is to create a safe and supportive environment for your friend. Let them know that you see them and you’re there for them, no matter what they’re going through. You don’t have to have all the answers, but by acknowledging their feelings and concerns, you’re showing them that they’re not alone.

2
Support

After acknowledging their feelings, it’s important to validate them. Let your friend know that it’s okay to feel however they’re feeling. Don’t minimize their emotions or try to “fix” things right away. Instead, ask them how you can be supportive and what they need in this moment.

3
Keep in touch

Ongoing support is key to helping someone through a tough time. Don’t just check in once; make an effort to reach out regularly to see how they’re doing. Whether it’s a quick text, a phone call, or inviting them to spend time together, these gestures can remind your friend that they’re not forgotten.
