Antisemitic Incidents on Campus by Year
Summary: Although antisemitic incidents on campus increased to the highest number on record—more than 2,300 incidents—there was also some good news, as the number of violent incidents (assaults and vandalism) decreased from the prior year as colleges and universities better enforced their school policies and codes of conduct. The number of BDS votes also fell, and anti-Israel campus encampments decreased significantly, to fewer than 10 encampments nationwide.
Incidents by Type
Thanks to the efforts of Hillel and other like-minded organizations, as well as improved enforcement of rules and codes of conduct by universities, violent antisemitic incidents—vandalism and physical assaults—were reduced significantly compared to the previous school year. Instead, antisemitic incidents proliferated online, with the number of social media and email incidents more than tripling year-over-year.
Also occurring during the 2024-2025 academic year:
-
BDS stands for Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions, and manifests on campus as non-binding student government votes that call on their universities to boycott products or divest from investments related to Israel. Practically, these votes often serve only to isolate Jewish students, as no college or university has ever implemented BDS measures.
43
BDS VotesIn the 2024-2025 school year, BDS votes decreased by more than half, but still were the second-highest on record since tracking began.
-
Anti-Israel legislation describes student government legislation that specifically targets the nation or people of Israel, in ways that do not include boycotts, divestment, or sanctions. Like BDS votes, Anti-Israel legislation has not impacted university policy, but deeply impacts the sense of belonging and safety for Jewish students on campus.

-
Disruptions to graduation and commencement ceremonies began occurring in the spring of 2024, often in association with anti-Israel encampments. While not every commencement disruption is antisemitic, those that do target Jewish students and their identities are included in this metric.
16
Commencement DisruptionsThe number of commencement disruptions changed very little relative to the prior academic year, with 16 disruptions tracked in 2024-2025.
-
The proliferation of anti-Israel encampments in April and May of 2024 had a negative impact on the well-being of many Jewish college students, with 40% of Jewish students reporting that they were forced to miss class time as a result of the encampments.
13
EncampmentsThe number of campus encampments decreased exponentially, from 113 the previous year to just 13 total in 2024-2025.
Hillel International has been tracking antisemitic incidents on U.S. and Canadian college and university campuses since the 2014-2015 academic year. Incidents are gathered from college and university bias reporting; from campus Hillels and Jewish student organizations; from the ReportCampusHate.org portal; and from a variety of other sources. All incidents are individually reviewed to verify their accuracy, identify their type, and remove duplicates.
