About October 7
On October 7, 2023, Hamas terrorist fighters broke through the protective security wall dividing Gaza and Israel and perpetrated the largest mass slaughter of Jews since the Holocaust. More than 1,200 people were killed in the attack, with thousands more injured, and 251 people were taken hostage and held in Gaza. As of November 2025, nearly all of the hostages – living and deceased – have been released or rescued, with some in captivity for over two years. The families of two remaining slain hostages are still waiting to receive their loved ones’ bodies.
The attacks at Kibbutz Be’eri, the town of Sderot, and the massacre at the Nova Music Festival left entire families devastated – and began a war between Israel and Hamas that continued until both groups signed a truce on October 9, 2025.
