This fall, more than 130 Hillels will receive grants to expand Shabbat programming as part of Hillel International’s “Shabbat Surge,” a movement-wide effort to strengthen Shabbat experiences during the first six weeks of the semester. The initiative aims to bring more students together around the Shabbat table and create opportunities for connection and community. “There’s something really special about seeing students who might not otherwise cross paths sitting around the same table, laughing, talking, and creating community together,” said Ben Novorr, director of Jewish student engagement at University of Kansas Hillel.

American University (AU) and AU Hillel announced a joint campaign to raise $7 million to provide AU Hillel with a fully renovated building including dedicated meeting and activity spaces, a student lounge, and staff offices. Government Cancels $60 Million in Harvard Grants in Response to Antisemitism Allegations
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services canceled $60 million in federal grants to Harvard University, citing the institution’s failure to adequately address antisemitic harassment and racial discrimination on campus. Harvard denied the allegations and filed a lawsuit against the White House, arguing that the funding cuts threaten crucial research projects and violate federal law.
Virginia Governor Issues Executive Order to Address Antisemitism in Schools
Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin signed an executive order directing state education leaders to develop resources to prevent, track, and report antisemitic incidents in Virginia public schools and universities. The order follows reports of 554 antisemitic incidents in Virginia over the past year, with most occurring in educational settings.
Dartmouth Rejects Anti-Israel Divestment Proposal
Dartmouth College’s Advisory Committee on Investor Responsibility unanimously voted against a divestment proposal that targeted companies supplying arms to Israel. The anti-Israel measure failed all five of the College’s criteria for “completeness,” disqualifying it from further consideration.
