Hillel International Expands Shabbat Opportunities at 130+ Hillels
This fall, more than 130 Hillels will receive grants to expand Shabbat programming as part of Hillel International’s “Shabbat Surge,” a movement-wide effort to strengthen Shabbat experiences during the first six weeks of the semester. The initiative aims to bring more students together around the Shabbat table and create opportunities for connection and community. “There’s something really special about seeing students who might not otherwise cross paths sitting around the same table, laughing, talking, and creating community together,” said Ben Novorr, director of Jewish student engagement at University of Kansas Hillel.

Three Hostages to be Released Saturday
Israeli officials confirmed that three hostages—Ofer Calderon (54), Kieth Siegel (65), and Yarden Bibas (35), whose wife and two young children are still being held by Hamas—will be released on Saturday. Hamas has claimed that Yarden Bibas’ wife and children were killed in captivity; however, Israel has not confirmed this claim.
Eight Hostages Released From Hamas Captivity, Including Three Israelis and Five Thai Nationals
Three Israeli hostages, including Agam Berger (20), Arbel Yehoud (29), and Gadi Mozes (80), along with five Thai nationals, Thenna Pongsak, Sathian Suwannakham, Sriaoun Watchara, Seathao Bannawat, and Rumnao Surasak have been released from Hamas captivity and safely escorted back into Israel by the IDF despite aggressive crowds in Gaza.
New Survey: Over 80% of Jewish College Students Have Experienced or Witnessed Antisemitism Since Oct. 7, 2023
According to a new survey conducted by Hillel International and the ADL, 83% of Jewish college students say they have experienced or witnessed antisemitism since the October 7 attack on Israel. Additionally, two-thirds of Jewish students (66%) expressed a lack of confidence in their universities’ ability to prevent and address antisemitic incidents.
Op/Ed: We Must Address Antisemitism on Campus Together
Adam Lehman, the president and CEO of Hillel International, and Jonathan Greenblatt, CEO and national director of the ADL, discuss the critical need for greater action from universities to properly address the rise of antisemitism on college campuses. Lehman and Greenblatt write that universities must take stronger action to ensure Jewish students feel safe and supported on campus, which includes enforcing rules and codes of conduct as well as speaking out unequivocally against antisemitism.
White House Issues Executive Order to Combat Antisemitism
The White House issued an executive order that will require government agencies and departments to submit reports within 60 days, identifying both civil and criminal authorities in each agency that will be tasked with addressing antisemitism. Included in the executive order is an intent to cancel visas for foreign students who violate existing U.S. law.
University of Florida Hillel Hosts Sixth Annual “Spread Cream Cheese Not Hate” Program Amid Rising Antisemitism
The University of Florida Hillel hosted its sixth annual “Spread Cream Cheese, Not Hate” program in response to the high levels of antisemitism across college campuses. The event brought together over 500 student volunteers and collected more than 6,000 signatures on a pledge to combat antisemitism and all forms of hate.
