Hillel International Expands Shabbat Opportunities at 130+ Hillels
This fall, more than 130 Hillels will receive grants to expand Shabbat programming as part of Hillel International’s “Shabbat Surge,” a movement-wide effort to strengthen Shabbat experiences during the first six weeks of the semester. The initiative aims to bring more students together around the Shabbat table and create opportunities for connection and community. “There’s something really special about seeing students who might not otherwise cross paths sitting around the same table, laughing, talking, and creating community together,” said Ben Novorr, director of Jewish student engagement at University of Kansas Hillel.

Anti-Israel demonstrators vandalized Oheb Shalom Congregation in South Orange, New Jersey, in protest against a talk given by members of the Israeli Air Force’s search-and-rescue unit. Protesters graffitied the driveway of the synagogue and shouted “baby killers” at passersby. Police are investigating the incident as a bias crime.
Boston University Hillel and BU Catholic Center Launch Interfaith Learning Cohort
Boston University’s Hillel and the BU Catholic Center have launched a multi-week Interfaith Learning Cohort to engage students in discussions on faith, identity, and shared values. The program aims to promote mutual understanding through guided conversations and collaborative learning, and provides a $300 stipend to participating students.

Six More Hostages To Be Released This Week
Israel has announced that three hostages will be released on Thursday, including Arbel Yehoud, Agam Berger, and a third as-yet-unidentified hostage. According to the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, three additional hostages will be released on Saturday.

Jewish New Yorkers showed up to support a popular Israeli restaurant, Miriam, in Park Slope after it was vandalized with anti-Israel graffiti. The NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force is investigating the incident, and no arrests have been made at this time.
Four More Hostages Arrive Safely in Israel After Release From Hamas Captivity
Following 477 days in Hamas captivity, four female hostages who were kidnapped on October 7th, 2023, have been released, and have crossed safely into Israel, escorted by the IDF. Karina Ariev, Daniella Gilboa, Naama Levy, and Liri Albag were reunited with their families on Saturday.
